On May 30th 2023, the Chapin Football team held a spring game, where players were divided into 2 teams, and competed against each other to prepare for the upcoming season.

Freshman Daveon Singleton is the starting quarterback and has been anticipating this game for weeks.

“The spring football game is where we test ourselves.” He said. “It shows all the hard work we’ve put in during the offseason. It helps us build back up chemistry with the team, and get comfortable making split-second decisions on the field.”  Adding; “Every snap counts, and it’s preparing us to be at our best when the real season kicks off.”

Junior Carey Wade highlighted the valuable lessons learned from the intense competition.

“Playing in the spring football game pushes us to our limits.” Wade Said. “It’s a chance to prove ourselves, not just to our coaches but also to colleges that might be scouting us. The pressure fuels our desire to excel, and we learn to keep our composure in high-stakes situations. It’s an experience that makes us better.”

Sophomore Savion Jordan feels as though the game allowed him to build his character for the future.

“The spring football game teaches us more than just the basics.” Savion said. “We learn discipline, accountability, and how to work together as a team. It’s not just about showcasing our talent; it’s about embracing the grind, overcoming obstacles, and developing the right mindset to tackle challenges. Saying, “The lessons we learn here extend far beyond football.”

The spring football game is also a chance to catch the attention of college scouts and open doors for their future, and many student athletes have dreams of playing beyond highschool.

Junior Justin Bailey has that goal.

“The game provides a platform for us to be seen by recruiters too.” He said. “It’s a shot at earning scholarships and continuing our football journey at the bigger level. So I give it my all everytime because you don’t ever know who’s in the stands. The pressure is intense, but it brings out the best in us.”

The Spring football game fueled their passion, sharpened their skills, and through their ability to work with each other, they exemplify the spirit of teamwork, determination, and personal growth that extends far beyond the boundaries of the field.
