Girls soccer places third at Lubbock tournament

The girls soccer team recently left town to participate in a tournament in Lubbock. They ended up placing third overall in the bracket. The girls were so excited to go out, but nervous to play against out-of-town teams.

“I was kind of excited to leave El Paso, but I was not excited to miss so much school,” junior Carymar Lopez-Cruz said. “I was kind of nervous to play against teams we had never seen but I am so glad I got a chance to go, I think I did super good on my games, and I am proud of all my teammates.”

Junior Valerie Contreras was “stressed out” when packing because they had to make sure to not forget anything.

“My biggest worry was that I would forget something from my uniform, we were going like five hours away, so there would be no just going home to get it,”  Valerie said. “I have traveled before, but I was still super scared I would forget my uniform sock or shirt.”

Sophomore Aleece Frede was “super proud” of her team, and how they played in the tournament.

“My teammates did amazing, we went out there and played our heart out.” Aleece said. “I think our rank in the tournament can speak for our hard work.”

The trip was fun and made “bonding moments” in the team.

“Besides the trip being fun and doing good on the team, it was nice having lunch and dinner with the team, because we just got to know each other better,” Carymar said. “We usually do not like talk in depth about each other personally and we all have our own friends, but it was nice being able to bond with everyone as a team and I think it made us stronger.”

Even though the trip was fun, they were so ready to come back home.

“I was exhausted, and I was getting homesick,” Aleece said. “I loved the travel, but nothing beats sleeping in your own bed, and it felt like the bus ride was never going to end.”

Valerie is “grateful” for her team and is excited for the going on season.

“I love playing soccer, and I’m so thankful to have these amazing players and people around me,” Valerie said. “I can’t wait to see how amazing we do and how we all get better throughout this season.”
