Needles, donation chairs, and medical staff will fill the library on
Wednesday, November 20, as students and staff participate in the school’s upcoming
blood drive.
The event is co-organized by the student council. The goal is to collect blood donations to
help local hospitals and patients in need.
“We’re hoping to have a strong turnout this year,” the school nurse said. “Every pint of
blood can save up to three lives,” the nurse said.
Students who are 16 years or older may donate with parental permission. The drive will
take place during the school day, running from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the library. Students can
sign up for appointment times in the front office, during lunch, or by scanning a barcode.
The student council will help with check-ins, refreshments, and recovery areas after
donations.
“It’s a great hands-on experience for the students,” Sam Wise said. “They’ll learn what it’s
like to help in a healthcare setting while supporting a good cause,” Wise said.
According to the sponsorship, blood donations tend to decrease during the holiday
season, making drives like Chapin’s important to keeping local supplies steady.
“It’s something simple that has a big impact,” Jade Sanchez, 12th grade and Student
Council member, said. “We’re just trying to remind everyone how much a small action like
donating can help,” Sanchez said.
Students planning to donate are advised to eat a healthy breakfast, stay hydrated, and
bring a valid photo ID on the day of the drive.
“We want donors to feel prepared and comfortable,” Wise said. “Even if someone can’t
give blood, spreading the word still helps support the cause,” he said.
Walk-in donors will be accepted if time allows, depending on the schedule and availability
of the staff.
“Every time we do this, more students get involved,” Wise said. “It’s not just about giving
blood; it’s about giving hope.”
