As STAAR testing season gets closer, students across campus are experiencing a range of reactions, from preparation efforts in class to concerns about performance.
“I feel a little nervous because it’s my first time taking it in high school,” said Sebastian Molina, freshman.
Sebastian shared that he has been reviewing material during class time and focusing on lessons to build confidence before the test.
“I’ve heard it’s important, so I don’t want to mess up,” Sebastian said.
Joel Lemaster, sophomore, explained that his experience this year is different compared to last year due to familiarity with the testing process.
“Last year I was way more stressed because I didn’t know what to expect,” said Joel Lemaster, sophomore.
Joel said that practice tests and teacher-led reviews have helped him understand the format and feel more prepared this time.
“Now I kind of understand it, so I’m more chill about it, but I still take it seriously,” Joel said.
Jayden Lewis, junior, described how the importance of the test increases as students get closer to graduation and meeting requirements.
“This test matters more for me,” said Jayden Lewis, junior.
Jayden said that he focuses on managing stress by staying calm and concentrating on preparation leading up to testing.
“There’s definitely pressure, but I just try to stay focused and not overthink it,” Jayden said.
Students across grade levels continue preparing in class while acknowledging the importance of the exam as testing dates approach.
