Registration for the next school year has officially opened, and many students are rushing to lock in classes before seats fill up. With deadlines approaching, students say choosing the right courses has become more competitive and stressful than expected.
“I didn’t realize how fast classes would fill up,” junior Diego Henderson said. “I had a plan, but now half of my choices are already gone.”
Teachers say students should register early and carefully review graduation requirements before submitting schedules. They also recommend choosing backup electives in case first choices are unavailable.
“Students need to make sure they are balancing required credits with classes they are interested in,” school English teacher Ms. G said. “Having second and third options can make the process much smoother.”
Many students say the pressure comes from trying to fit required classes, electives, and future goals into one schedule. Some worry one decision could affect the rest of their year.
“It’s honestly stressful because one class can change your whole schedule,” sophomore Mariyah Lopez said. “Everyone is trying to get in at the same time, so you have to act fast.”
“Students should challenge themselves, but they also need to be realistic about time and balance,” physics teacher Mr. Rice said. “A strong schedule is one that helps students succeed, not one that overwhelms them.”
Others say they are checking often to see if openings appear in classes that are already full.
“I keep going back in just to see if anything opens up,” junior Anthony Cruz said. “It feels like if you wait too long, you’re stuck with whatever’s left.”
With registration deadlines nearing, students are being urged to finalize their choices soon before remaining spots disappear.
