Students looking forward to this year’s Chalk It Up event will have to wait a little longer after art teachers announced that the event was postponed because of rainy weather conditions.
Originally scheduled for April 24, 2026, the colorful outdoor event will now take place on May 19, 2026. The delay was made to help ensure that students’ artwork would not get washed away or ruined by the rain.
“I understand why they postponed it because the rain could have ruined everyone’s hard work,” said senior Pamela Gonzalez-Martinez . “Now students have more time to finish their drawings and make them better.”
Chalk It Up brings students together to create artwork across the campus sidewalks while showing school spirit and creativity. Despite the postponement, organizers said they are still excited for the event and encouraged students to prepare their designs for the new date.
“I was really sad when they postponed it because I was looking forward to the event all week,” said senior Layla Anguiano. “I’m still excited for when the day comes and look forward to seeing everyone’s art.”
According to the art teachers coordinating the event, wet sidewalks and possible rain showers could have ruined students’ chalk drawings and made it difficult for students to participate safely.
“I still needed to submit what I wanted to draw in order to participate, so I needed the extra time,” said senior Aimee Chavaria. “I got to make changes to my drawing, so I’m happy with the outcome.”
Students are being told to stay updated through school announcements and reminders as the new event date approaches.
