Wasting Cafeteria food happens around the world

Cafeteria food going to waste is a big issue. People might not think so but food getting thrown away is heartbreaking. People around the world have their opinions on food waste. They have ideas on this situation that never seems to stop.

“I think that food waste is a big issue, so wasting cafeteria food is not a good thing, especially in America,” said Izzy Khachatryan, a sophomore from Salt Lake City, Utah.

Students say that not only does food get wasted but it can also damage the earth.

“It’s hard on the environment because when food decomposes in a landfill it releases methane emissions which is a greenhouse Gas’s Al,” Izzy said. “Which is bad for the environment when too much is related to the atmosphere.”

Daisy Ansell, a junior from Wales, Uk, has a small suggestion on what schools should do with leftover food.

“I think it should be given to the staff of the school to take home if they want it,” she said. “Or if it’s possible to be used for dinners the next day.”

“I think it’s sad honestly that so much food goes to waste,” said Jammine De Giuseppe, a junior from Zurich, Switzerland. “I would just appreciate it if like the remaining is donated for homeless people or just some place that needs food. Like maybe a solution could be either making less food or donating it to someone or somewhere that needs it or can’t afford it.”

Jammine said we can do so much to help out people who need it instead of just throwing food away.

“I mean many people don’t have that privilege to have at least three meals a day so maybe donating it to a charity that gives the food to people who need it would be good,” she said. “Just give the food to people on the street because throwing it away is just rude and disrespectful to people like in poor countries or situations.”
