On November 3rd, Game producer Activision’s Call of Duty World War 2 will be publicly release. COD WW2 was originally announced in late April 2017, and has been awaited by gamers ever since. This Call of Duty returned to the 1940’s 2nd world war era, much like the earlier games in the series. Before COD WW2, most Call of Duty’s were future based, because of gamer’s unrest Activision returned the series to its ‘past’ settings. Although most gamers were happy with the change, some were spectacle. Even prior to release, the game has already got criticism.
With returning to the historical time period, many historical inaccuracies came with the time travel. Some of the criticisms that have been mentioned are the lack of historical Nazi symbols, and the option to play as inaccurate people in multiplayer. Activision has decided to remove all Nazi symbols such as the swastika from multiplayer. This has a significant number of gamers in riot. Activision also gave the option to play as historically inaccurate characters in multiplayer. For example, you are given the option to play as a black woman in the Nazi army. This as well has many players angry or frustrated. Activision combated this by saying it was a decision to give the players control and to put the players in the battlefield.
Some gamers have also complained that the new game is just a reskin as it still uses the same mechanics of the futuristic staged games. Whether these controversies are game changing or not, it is safe to say that COD gamers are glad to see a change of scenery.
