Artificial intellegence, or A.I., tools should only be used when they can add value, increase efficiency, or improve the quality of our work.
They should not replace human decision-making where nuance, personal judgment, or direct human contact is
vital according to Chapin Hall
“I believe students should use it as another tool to help them learn,” Physics teacher Robert Rice said.” But I also understand how it can be abused as well.”
Students have found A.I. to be very helpful through out the school year helping them with homework, projects, and presentations.
“It’s a very helpful to give me information for homework and projects,” junior Viviana Navarro said.” My teachers tell me not to use it because it won’t help you learn valuable information.”
The use of A.I. is spreading in classrooms to make work and assignments easier for students. Artificial intelligence takes away a student’s learning ability by just asking a robot for information and hurting students in the long run.
“I’ve had a lot of students use A.I. for multiple assignments,” English teacher Angelica Gutierrez said.” They use it as a short cut and turn in the same work.”
The possible consequences of using AI is a failing grade. Submitting A.I.-generated work as their own could result in a failing grade on the assignment. Another consequence is disciplinary action. Academic dishonesty can lead to disciplinary consequences outlined in the school’s code of conduct.
“I don’t use it because I’m scared I’ll get caught and won’t learn,” sophomore Kayla Creel said. “I know a lot of teachers are against it but some just don’t care.”
