Skipping classes is becoming a growing trend. Students are skipping their scheduled classes to attend others. Some do it to escape boring classes, others just to go spend time with other teachers. No matter the grade, they’re all skipping classes.
Sophomore Andre Sanchez skips her main classes, to visit her friends.
“I know skipping classes is bad but it’s just boring to sit in a class doing work,” Erica said. “It’s better to just hang out with my friends since we have fun doing anything really.”
She’s not the only one, many students are finding that all their regular classes don’t keep their attention or are not entertaining. But some students think skipping classes is pointless.
Junior Erica Morales believes skipping doesn’t help anyone.
“I don’t understand why people skip their classes. It just makes them fall behind in class,” Erica said. “If they are that bored, they can talk to the teacher or ask to move out of that class.”
Teachers are also confused on why students have the sudden urge to skip classes. Some know that it could be a personal matter, but others think it’s just kids being irresponsible with their attendance.
English teacher Helena Faiello-Simpson understands students can have a hard time in some classes.
“It’s true school can be tough, and sometimes most students feel like certain classes are not worth their time,” Faiello-Simpson said. “But overall, we know skipping hurts your grade, but it also makes you miss the understanding of material.”
