The Cheerleading UIL Competition was on January 17, hosted at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
This will be the cheerleaders first competition of the season. Varsity cheerleaders senior Vivian Herrera, junior Isabella (Bella) Escobar, senior Navon Wheaton, and junior Danika Check say that they feel it’s a good way to kick off their season.
“I have a very good feeling that they are going to hit all of their stuff in the routine,” cheerleader coach Krystle McClain shares her feelings about the competition.
Coaches Michael and Whistly from LA created the cheerleader’s specific routine for UIL and National competitions.
“I feel very confident in our team,” varsity cheerleader Navon said.
EPISD School District chooses five of their schools to go to UIL each year.
“I also feel very confident, and I think it was made for us and we’re just going to go out there and kill it,” varsity cheerleader Danika said.
Their routine consists of a band cadance, then a cheer, then a fight song. For the fight song they used the school’s personal fight song.
“I think my favorite part is the fight song,” McClain said.
Vivian also said that the fight song is her favorite part: whereas Navon, Danika, and Bella’s favorite part is the band chant.
Vivian states that she is bitter-sweet about competition since it’s their (her) last year. Vivian has been a cheerleader for 12 years since she was six, Navon for 11 years, Danika for 10 years, and Bella for six years.

“Good luck to all the other teams representing Texas, and we hope everybody has safe travels there and back to wherever they are coming from,” the cheerleaders said.
