Senior SG Bryson Goldsmith dribbles the ball with his eyes on the basket. Three players from Shabach watch him as he steps.

The McDonalds classic is a tournament hosted by McDonalds. McDonalds hosted this and paid for teams to go out of town to play other high school teams. The profits from the games go into money to give out scholarships. On Thursday, December 1 the boys played against Shabach Christian Academy.

“I’m excited to get out there and play against this team,” senior Yeremik Acevedo said. “This team comes from far so I’m excited to see how we will do.”

In the first half the boys were down 20-9.

“Even though we were losing I didn’t want to give up,” senior Bryson Goldsmith said. “I still put in all my effort to try to catch up.”

Senior Peyton Parker scored several 3-point shots during the game.

“I couldn’t get close enough to the basket,” Peyton said. “So I would shoot from far and made almost every one.”

The game was played at the school at 2:30, which happened to be during the school day. Students were able to buy tickets for two dollars and attend the assembly game.

“It was so much fun getting out of class and going to watch and support our basketball team,” freshman Gavin Chase said. “The crowd was really involved, and it made it more fun.”

The basketball team ended up losing the game 66-33.

“Even though we lost I’m not sad we still put up a good fight,” junior Brandon Hymes said. “Playing this team gave us exposure to other teams outside of El Paso and it was still fun. “
