Seniors’ Thoughts on Graduation

The husky that welcomes all students into Chapin High School.

Caps and gowns have been ordered, families have been invited, and students are setting up for this monumental event. Graduation is up and coming as the time draws closer to the end of the school year.  Graduation for the senior class will be on June 3.

Senior, Jada Wooley has her own feelings about graduation and how the pandemic has affected her.

“The pandemic has really made graduation feel that not so special to me,” Jada said.

Seniors have lost their sophomore and their junior year to this pandemic. However, Jada keeps headstrong in her plans after high school. Jada wants to follow her mother in the path of nursing.

“I’m going to go to The University of Hawai’i at Mānoa,” Jada said. “I plan on getting some type of educational degree.”

The mentality of wanting high school to be over runs strong within seniors like Sebastian Diaz.

“I cannot wait to graduate,” Sebastian said. “Mentally I’ve been kind of done with school and I just want this to be over already.”

Sebastian plans to study botany in California after a yearlong break from school.

Seniors didn’t let the drain of the school year drag them down.

“I’m super excited. Graduation is one of the events I’ve been waiting for my entire life, and I can’t wait for it,” senior Amariah Wright said. “I’m planning on studying clinical Psychology.”

Amariah’s planning to go to a community college first, and then transfer to a historic black college or university. Another senior who was excited for this ceremony was Bryson Green.

“Can’t wait for the moment I get to walk across that stage,” Bryson said.

He’s planning to stay in El Paso and wanting to go to UTEP to pursue a career in art and education. People are still looking forward to the time after graduation and the chance to walk across that stage.

“I’m ecstatic,” Bryson said. “I’m excited to have that last, special teenage moment.”
