Both teams came out strong, keeping the pace fast for most of the scrimmage. Austin pressured early, while the boys’ soccer team worked to control the ball and create scoring opportunities. Both sides had a few missed chances, but the game remained competitive from start to finish.
Senior midfielder Aiden Bravo said it felt good to finally play a real game after weeks of practice.
“We’ve just been going against each other in practice, so it was nice to play someone new,” Aiden said. “We’re still figuring things out, but it was a good start.”
Communication was a key focus for the team. There were moments when players seemed unsure, especially on defense, which highlighted areas that need improvement. Senior defender Jonathan Perez called the scrimmage a learning experience.
“Austin was quick, and it showed us that we need to talk more and stay organized,” Jonathan said.
The scrimmage also gave coaches the chance to try different lineups and give younger players more time on the field. This helped the team see which players work well together and which positions still need adjustments.
Senior captain Diego Martinez said the team is motivated to keep improving after the scrimmage.
“We didn’t play perfectly, but everyone made an effort,” Diego said. “If we clean up the small mistakes, we’ll be ready for the season.”
