The boys’ basketball team lost for the first time after an incredible 100-game winning streak, ending a run that had lasted several seasons. The streak came to a close Friday night in a close game that stayed competitive until the final buzzer.
The gym was packed with students expecting another win, but the opposing team came out with energy and determination, making the game challenging from the start. The boys’ basketball team had strong moments, but late-game mistakes made it difficult to mount a comeback.
Senior guard Jacob Garcia described the loss as frustrating but not entirely unexpected. “We all knew the streak wasn’t going to last forever,” Garcia said. “It sucks to lose, but maybe this helps us realize we can’t relax.”
Turnovers and missed free throws, especially in the second half, gave the opposing team chances to take control. Despite these setbacks, the players continued to fight until the end.
Junior forward Carlos Puente called the loss a wake-up call. “Every team wants to beat us because of the streak,” Puente said. “This just shows we have to play hard every game.”
Even with the streak over, the team isn’t letting one loss define them. Senior captain Bryson Flood emphasized the focus on improvement. “The streak was cool, but it’s not the most important thing,” Flood said. “We just have to learn from this and move on.”
The team will regroup and aim to carry lessons from this game into the rest of the season.
