Student Council’s Fall Conference
Student council was invited to the District 9 Fall Conference on Wednesday, Oct. 26. The District 9 organization unites student councils ranging from elementary schools to high schools in the region. The purpose of the events they hold is to connect councils to each other so they can share ideas for projects and inspire the students.
Members of student councils look forward to these events since they’re a way to meet new people and collaborate with other like-minded people. The dates of the events are given months ahead.
“Going to these events is always fun since I’m able to talk to other STUCO kids,” junior Savannah Zamora said. “I’ve been ready for it since the summer.”
The first thing on the timeline required all the councils to do a showcase of their school spirit. They all had to say a cheer or scream when their school’s name was called.
“My favorite part was when we had to do rollcall and we all screamed the husky rumble,” junior Saidee Garcia said.
During the event, motivational speaker, Juan Bendana, spoke of how a person’s goals can only be achieved if the person puts in the work to see it get done.
“The motivational speaker was funny, I liked his message,” senior Brenden Ucol said.
Compared to last year, general members were invited to come with the council to the event rather than just officers.
“I’m glad I got the chance to go to the event, it was really fun to see all the different councils,” junior Sienna Villalobos said.
After the speaker, councils were encouraged to interact with other councils and learn about the projects they have done.
“Being able to learn about other councils’ projects was interesting since it grouped all of the councils together and we all felt like a community,” Garcia said.
