A new theater production is in the works this fall semester. The 70’s Broadway musical, Pippin, will be ready for viewing on its opening night, Sept. 26. Director of the musical, Cody Ritchey, is fond of its unique concept.
“It’s basically a play about a play,” he said. “We see a group of theater performers performing the story of Pippin, so there’s a lot of use of the fourth wall.”
Ritchey also added that the play was chosen not only because of its uniqueness, but also the sights and sounds.
“It’s a great classic. It’s got really good songs, and it can use a lot of people,” Ritchey said. “We always like to try and have as big a cast as possible for musicals, so it’s a good choice.”
There will be four showings. Sept. 26, Sept. 28, Nov. 2, and Nov. 4. Tickets will cost $5 for students and $7 for adults.
Though, the director isn’t the only one who’s excited. Sophomore Valerie Aniya, who will be playing the role of Catherine, has stated as much.
“I just cannot wait to see what we bring, because I think this year we have amazing people,” she said.
She encourages people to come see the play. “I think it’s gonna be a good experience because we are putting on a show that’s not like no other,” Valerie added. “It’s a musical, and musicals are always fun.”
Another actor, Lesa Mendoza, is looking forward to the social aspect of performing in the musical.
“Just getting to experience and work with other people and getting to meet people,” Lesa said. “I’m excited for that.”
As for those who might have wanted to audition for the play but couldn’t bring themselves to, the actors have offered some words of encouragement.
“I would just say try to do the auditions,” Lesa said. “It’s very fun if you do the auditions and it just gives you motivation to try more.”
Valerie also had her own encouraging words for shy yet aspiring actors.
“Do it!” She said. “I mean, you only live once, and if you get casted, that’s amazing.”
