TSI testing dates for seniors

Testing Room. The C-5 Lab is where students can sign up for the next TSI testing date.

The TSI (Texas Success Initiative) assessment is an exam that assesses whether students are prepared for college-level studies in the areas of mathematics, reading, and writing. And beginning from February to March, there will be opportunities for students to take this exam to determine which appropriate classes they will be placed in for college.

During the SAT exams, if students failed a particular subject, then they would have to take the TSI assessment in order to make up for their low SAT scores.

“This test is really important because it will show colleges if you’ll need remedial classes or not,” college readiness teacher Rebecca Nassi said. “If students should not pass any of the TSIA2 exams and they go to EPCC for example, they’ll need to take these classes in college which cost more money so we’re trying to get them to get a passing score that will help them skip these unnecessary classes.

Students need a score of 950 on the mathematics section, a 945 on the reading and writing section, and a five on the essay.

“I already took the test a while back and I didn’t do so good on it the first time, which means I’m going to have to study so I’m ready for the next testing date,” senior Tristan Endlich said.

Students have the opportunity to study for the TSI in which they can go to after school tutoring that helps with this specific exam.

“I honestly don’t want to take any extra classes in college which means I have no choice but to take this test as many times as I can until I can pass it,” Scottie Paige said.
