Students are becoming more restless about the school dress code. More and more students are starting to ignore the rules, wearing whatever they want regardless of the policy. Most of them say they just don’t care about the dress code.
Junior Amaya Garcia says she’s done trying, and just wear whatever she wants.
“I honestly don’t care anymore, about the dress code,” Amaya said. “I sued to always follow the dress, but it feels so unnecessary now. If I get dress coded, then I just get dress coded.”
There are more students that feel that way. Around campus, students are wearing strapless tops, spaghetti straps, hats, everything that the school has banned. Some say the rules just don’t fit with what they are going to wear.
Senior Dejah Nuñez believes teachers are getting less strict about dress code.
“To be fair most teachers don’t even care anymore,” Dejah said . “I’ve walked past staff wearing things that may get you dress coded, but they basically just tell me to stop showing stomach.”
Still, staff believe there needs to be a balance between letting them dress freely and getting dress coded. Teachers say it’s not about punishing students, but also keeping things appropriate in a school setting.
Physical education teach Tevin Caldwell says the dress code isn’t being ignored, teachers are just not being really strict.
“I’ve noticed students wearing things that technically break rules,” Caldwell said. “But I feel if they are showing up, doing their work, and not being disrespectful, then that’s all that matters as long as they get a good education.”
