Graduation is a time for new beginnings, but it leaves students wondering what to do. Whether it’s going to college, joining the army, or taking a gap year, all seniors have different and unique ambitions.
Senior Joelle Gonzales decided to join the Air force. He is quite excited and nervous about it.
“I figured out I wanted to join the Air force right after my ninth-grade year,” Joelle said. “My great grandfather is the reason I wanted to join. My dad’s father always told stories about my great grandfather serving in the military, which got me interested in the whole military thing.”
Although many seniors already know what they’re going to do, others are still unsure about what their future holds. Choosing between many careers is causing them stress. Some are choosing to take a break after graduation to explore more options for them to choose from.
Senior Destiny Gomez isn’t sure what path she should take after graduation.
“I am actually stressed about what to do after graduation. My parents say it’s normal, but I don’t think it is, because mostly everyone close to me knows what they’re going to be doing,” Destiny said. “I am thinking about taking a break from school and working so I can travel for a while and set my mind on what I would really love to do with my life.”
Teachers know exactly what these seniors are feeling, since they have been through similar experiences. Even though they are excited to see their seniors succeed, it is usually tough for them to let go because of bonds that were formed throughout the years.
Science teacher Miriam Renteria gives insights on how she feels and gives advice for the class of 2025.
“I really enjoyed my time with my group of seniors. They are all very bright and really hardworking. It was really great seeing them grow throughout the past 3 years,” Renteria said. “Some advice I would give to them is to keep learning new things, never be afraid to take risks, and just have a good time out of high school. Also, make sure to stay safe.”
