Student participate in the annual chalk the block

Junior Chase Seeker’s painting of graffiti. “I drew like this graffiti type of thing from some graffiti game to be honest I got the idea cause like kind of since graffiti was legal people thought that graffiti was just some violent expression of junk that was happening all over the place like you would see it in cities, you would see it on trains” junior Chase Seeker said.

This is a Friday event that only students who are enrolled in this class as their elective can attend.Chalk it up is an event that students prepare for doing school projects within the class.

I feel like it’s was a good  opportunity to express creativity and really show the different creative minds of the student body that go here and I feel like it would have been very excited if I did go,” senior Avery Hecker said.

This is an all day event that students have to show their art and creativity in front of the school. Students are allowed to pick a piece of cement to work on their art.

“Well Chalk it up the idea behind it is to get students to work in a different setting than inside of the classroom,” art teacher Regina Chavez said. “To promote more of like a kind of a street art aesthetic but also at the same time to create an event to bring students together show their skills and their abilities out in public for other to see.”

Here are some pros and coms of chalk it up. A pro of chalk it up is that students gets to show off their art skills. A con of chalk it up is that all art work gets stepped on and eventually paint disappears.

“To do honest as long the criterium was more of a good type of criterium and not the bad type I would say I really didn’t care,” junior Chase Seeker said.

Chalk it up is given to all students to do art because since its not considered a sport they do not really get event days like this.

“Well I mean honesty I have a feeling that it’s just because I mean some kids like to do it like I know a lot of kids have fun and they want to go out there and be with their friends but  you know we do pull out the students all day out of their class so that’s a pretty big incentive,” Chavez said.

There were a lot of different pieces of artwork on the sidewalk. The different kinds of art that they have on the sidewalk consist of a variety of creative outlets. There are also different styles of art out there like impressionism, cubism, fantasy, and graffiti.

“I drew like this graffiti type of thing from some graffiti game to be honest I got the idea cause like kind of since graffiti was legal people thought that graffiti was just some violent expression of junk that was happening all over the place like you would see it in cities, you would see it on trains,” Chase said.
