Accidents happen very often in a lot of states but the state that has the most accidents is Texas. Most of the accidents that happen are caused by teenagers.

In the last four years the number of accidents that happened in El Paso alone was 61,402. Most of those accidents that happen were caused by distracted driving and speeding. Almost all accidents are caused by people on their phone while driving.

“I like to get to places alive and fixing your car cost a lot of money,” director Erica Ryholm said.

A lot of accidents that happen are caused by men. Men cause about 6.1 million accidents per year whereas women cause 4.4 million accidents per year. Most of the accidents that happen often happen between 6:00 p.m. and 8:59 p.m.

“I feel like it is very important to drive safely,” counselor Ashley Sheldon said.

The risk of motor vehicle crashes is higher among teens ages 16-19 than among any other age group. Teen drivers in this age group have a fatal crash rate almost three times as high as divers ages 20 and older per mile driven. The presence of teen or young adult passengers increases the crash risk of unsupervised teen drivers.

“If I listen to music, it helps me drive better,” Senior Leonardo Belman said.

Research shows that soft, quiet background music in high-traffic situations can ease the boredom, anxiety, or stress that comes with being stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic. While listening to background noise, such as music has been shown in some cases to improve mood, focus, and concentration. On the other hand, listening to music while driving can also be proven to be extremely distracting.

“New drivers are more likely to cause the most accidents,” senior Leonardo Belman said.
