Serious Senioritis

As the close of senior year approaches rapidly, senior students explained how “senioritis” is affecting them so far this year. “Ha!” Senior Noelle Proflit said. “Senioritis hit me start of junior year.”

But what is senioritis anyways?

“Oh, isn’t that something where seniors drop out or something” Senior Dawson Ciurro says.

Senioritis is an affliction of students in their final year of high school or college, characterized by a decline in motivation or performance. Although students like Ciurro might not know exactly what it is, they do show signs of it. Since characterized by a decline in motivation and performance Ciurro shared his feelings when schoolwork and activates were brought up.

“Yes, in the past I have had motivation to do schoolwork, but currently not at all.” Ciurro said, “I have this mental separation from school. I’m really ready to move onto the next chapter of life.”

Santiago Lopez a senior, who plays baseball, also agreed with Ciurro.

“I really want to graduate and move on to the next chapter in my life,” Santiago said.

Although Lopez agrees, he also shares why extracurricular activities have stopped senioritis from taking over his senior year. “I have motivation to not slack off in school. I’m trying to keep my grades up for baseball.”
