Cheer team loses coach, gains another

The cheer team has recently lost their coach. Their coach, Yanel Buendia, has left to be the Student Activities Manager over at Soccoro High School. The prior cheer coach and current Student Activities Manager, Julie Oshiro, has taken back domain over the program and will step in as the coach for the rest of the year

Sophomore Londyn Meade joined cheer this year but lost her coach.

“I’m sad that she left but she was a good asset to the team, she will be missed,” Londyn said.

Many of the cheerleaders stated that Coach Buendia was a very fun person and was always there to talk.

“She was a cool coach, maybe too much fun, we didn’t get much done but she was always fun to talk to,” junior Savannah Zamora said.

The team didn’t get to join football at the playoffs game since it was 10 hours away and the arrangements were last minute.

“We couldn’t go to the playoffs because I don’t think we could afford it and the whole coach thing was confusing so we sat this one out,” junior Desert-Rain Martin said.

Until next year, Coach Oshiro will be managing the team.

“It’s been said we won’t get a new coach until next year, so we’ll be cheering under Oshiro until then,” junior Anna Vera said, “I’m very excited for what Coach Oshiro will do for this program.”
