Utep art field trip

Recently we had a field trip to Utep for the art program provided for art majors. The field trip was all morning long and presented every program they have provided. They started the trip off by showing their art Museum named “The Ruben Center”. The Ruben center is fairly new, with very little art from students that attend Utep. Shown in the museum was art about our city of El Paso, politics, and just fun creative art. Further than students were taken around the campus, or more specifically the art building.

The Art building contains 5 levels which are drawing, painting, metals, pottery, and woodshop. Each level is a different hall for the different types of art that are taken. In each hall students were shown classrooms and an instructor explained how the certain hall was used. Art teacher Mrs. Valdez says “I love being back here because it reminds me of all the time i spent here and how I got better at art with the professors that inspired me to do better.”

Examples of art was shown and how the art was made in each level. Campus students talked to our students explaining how the feel about the program, what it has to offer, and how to prepare for college. Junior, Brianna Gomez says “ Being able to see the building and how art is created was my favorite part and helped me understand more about art.” They helped the students get a better perspective of what to expect if they do plan to pursue art. They also provided simple information as in finical aid, and the application process to help students start getting ready for college in general. Junior, Alyssa Garcia says “I really like how they included more information about college and not just art. This helped me understand more because I was really confused on how applying for college works.”. The field trip provided a lot of good information that was needed for most students. They benefited from this trip and had a lot of fun interacting with professors and students as they experienced how majoring art goes.
